Job Description
As a Business Analyst CPT Intern, you will support our analytics and operations teams by translating raw data into actionable insights. You will be embedded in real project workflows — not shadow assignments — and will own discrete deliverables from discovery through presentation.
Responsibilities
Data Collection & Preparation

- Build and maintain automated data pipelines using Python or SQL to reduce manual reporting effort.
- Document data dictionaries and lineage for the datasets you work with.
Analysis & Reporting
- Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify trends, anomalies, and business opportunities.
- Design and publish dashboards in Tableau, Power BI, or Looker that track key platform and operational KPIs.
- Conduct cohort analysis, funnel analysis, and retention studies for product and marketing teams.
- Produce weekly and monthly business performance reports with executive-level narrative summaries.
Business Intelligence Support
- Assist in defining metrics frameworks and KPI hierarchies for new product initiatives.
- Work with product and engineering teams to instrument new features with proper analytics tracking.
- Support A/B test design, data collection, and statistical significance evaluation.
Stakeholder Communication
- Present findings to cross-functional teams in structured slide decks or written briefs.
- Translate technical analysis outputs into plain-language recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
- Participate in weekly team stand-ups and monthly business reviews.
Process Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies in current reporting workflows and propose automation or consolidation solutions.
- Assist in auditing existing reports for accuracy, relevance, and maintainability.
- Contribute to internal knowledge-base documentation for analytics standards and best practices.
Qualifications
Required
- Currently enrolled in a U.S. accredited college or university on an F-1 student visa and eligible for CPT authorization.
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field.
- Completed at least one course in statistics, data analysis, or quantitative methods.
- Basic proficiency in SQL (SELECT, JOIN, GROUP BY, subqueries).
- Familiarity with at least one data visualization tool (Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; Mandarin proficiency is a plus.
- Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable working in a fully remote environment.
Preferred
- Experience with Python (pandas, numpy, matplotlib/seaborn) for data manipulation and visualization.
- Exposure to ETL concepts or workflow automation tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt, or Fivetran).
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, or AWS Athena).
- Prior internship, research project, or coursework project involving real-world datasets.
- Understanding of basic statistical methods: hypothesis testing, regression, confidence intervals.
- Experience with Git for version control (even in academic project context).
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this CPT engagement, interns are expected to demonstrate:
- Ability to independently scope, execute, and present a data analysis project.
- Working knowledge of the end-to-end BI workflow: data ingestion → cleaning → analysis → visualization → stakeholder presentation.
- Practical experience with SQL and at least one BI visualization platform.
- Understanding of how business KPIs are defined, measured, and reported in a product-driven company.
- Exposure to agile team workflows, sprint planning, and cross-functional collaboration.
