When the Fee Is Charged
The online STEM OPT I-20 request asks you to upload the payment receipt, so pay on the payment page first and then submit the request. The form's required uploads include a "receipt showing payment of the Maintenance of Status Fee for STEM OPT".
Notes
- This fee is paid to the school. It is separate from the USCIS I-765 filing fee, and you pay both.
- The website doesn't say whether the fee is refundable.
